Daily Dump: Tim “The Saint” Tebow

Posted by Mike on July 22, 2008

Brought to you by: Zippanut

What’s up with this kid ?  He declined to be on the Playboy All-American, because he’s one of those religious nut jobs. I suppose its against his moral standards, or some shit to that affect; but come on guy.  I don’t know any 20 something year old kid in college that is straight and wouldn’t want to be apart of anything that Playboy does.  I am not saying he is gay or anything, but it is Playboy and they do have the hottest chicks, If your not into hot chicks i feel sorry for you.  It was not like he is going to be partying at the mansion for being on the team, they just have a banquet for all the players in Phoenix.  He is one of those people that are so nice and moral that one day he is gonna be in the middle of some snuff porn ring or something crazy like that.  No kid should say no to Playboy  so for that, this dump is for you Tebow.

Quid pro Quo yes or no, your turn!!

Don’t Jaywalk In Seattle

Posted by Mike on July 22, 2008

This time you truly cannot blame Manny for doing anything wrong. A cop was just trying to be a douche to good ole’ Manny Ramirez. Geoff Baker of the Seattle Times writes:

Seems that Boston slugger Manny Ramirez was leaving the ballpark, with headphones on trying to look inconspicuous and quickly get away from the crowds still leaving the stadium. He started to cross South Royal Brougham Way, against the signals of a traffic cop who was directing pedestrians. The police officer demanded that Ramirez open his wallet and show identification. He warned him that he could face a $500 fine and possible arrest for disobeying a police officer.

It became clear to those watching that the policeman had no idea who Ramirez was. He didn’t ask for an autograph or anything, but did ask Ramirez if he’d attended the game. After the brief lecture, and no argument from Ramirez, the police officer let him go with no further trouble.

You can’t chalk this one up as Manny being Manny, this was just an officer of the law being a complete ass! The officer is lucky that Manny didn’t throw him down in the middle of the street, or make him get Manny 16 tickets for the tonight’s game. Next time something like this happens to Manny, he’s gonna Schultz somebody to get his point across. Just ask Jack McCormick what happens when you mess with the maniacal one.

Charles Barkley Is A Good Guy

Posted by Mike on July 22, 2008

What is not to love about Sir Charles ? He loves to drink, party, gamble, golf, and visit strip clubs. Honestly, no one alive may have a better life than Sir Charles. Hugh Hefner is close, but the sports, golf, and gambling outweigh the Playboy bunnies. Now, comes the story about The Round Mound of Rebound helping out a college kid, who had to put his education on hold and work as a busboy to save up money to go back to college:

He’s worked as a busboy for eight years at Saloon (750 S. 7th), where he struck up a friendship with one generous regular at the Italian restaurant who volunteered to pay his Temple tuition.

During a visit to Saloon last summer, Charles Barkley asked Abate how he was enjoying teaching, and was disappointed to learn that Abate had still not returned to Temple because of problems securing financial aid. Abate, 28, of South Philly, started at Temple in 1997, months after graduating from St. John Neumann High.

Sir Charles told Abate he would like to help him with his tuition, and Abate wasn’t sure how to respond. Barkley didn’t give him much time, telling Abate that he had the length of Barkley’s meal to decide. Abate wisely accepted.

“He’s a nice kid,” Barkley said of Abate on Friday. “He was working with kids, I loved that he wanted to be a teacher, and I wanted to help him,” Barkley told us by phone between stops on a flight to Reno where he was making a speech.

When we joked to Barkley that people were going to be calling him today asking for money, he said “People always call me asking for money, and Christian never asked, which is why I wanted to help him out.”

Now, if only the Wynn Casino could get their money this easy.

Rodney’s Replacement ?

Posted by Mike on July 22, 2008

This comes to us via ProFootballTalk: According to former Dallas Cowboys Personnel guy and of Sirrus NFL Radio, Gil Brandt said that “citing an unnamed NFL source, said that Williams could be a cap casualty of the Cowboys if he doesn’t have a strong training camp”.

With Rodney Harrison entering the final year on his contract, and also the possibility of his retirement, the Patriots need an air apparent for Harrison. Who better to fill those shoes than hard-hitting Roy Williams. It has been said that Williams does not fit the scheme that Wade Phillips is running in Dallas, and the Cowboys have had thoughts of trading Williams in the past. With apparently no takers the Cowboys may just have to cut the former first round pick. His rugged style is very reminiscent of Harrison, and he sure would fit the Bill Belichick style of football. There is just talk that Williams could get cut, but he would seemingly be a much better option to the Patriots than James Sanders. In August of 2006, Williams signed a 5-year 25.2 Million Dollar extension with 11.1 Million guaranteed.

Red Sox Prospect News

Posted by Mike on July 22, 2008

It looks like instead of spending big money on Michael Inoa, the Red Sox are going to spend that money on their draft class according to Baseball Prospectus:

After it was announced late this week that the Red Sox would spend $3 million to buy first-round pick Casey Kelly away from a football scholarship at Tennessee, multiple sources indicate that they are close to spending over $5 million more on three later picks with first-round talent. Fourth- and fifth-round outfielders Pete Hissey and Ryan Westmoreland are both monster athletes and tough signs, but the Red Sox have seemingly come to terms with both for “greater than seven-figues,” with Westmoreland reported approaching $2 million. The most shocking rumor floating around at this time is that the Red Sox are also very close to signing 20th-round pick Alex Meyer. The six-foot-seven power righty from Indiana has first-round stuff, but he was considered all but unsignable due to the Boras factor and a strong commitment to the University of Kentucky. The hottest rumor among scouting circles has $2 million looking like it will take care of both those issues. Also look for the team to sign their sixth-round pick, Yale catcher Ryan Lavarnway, for late-third round money.

This Is Rather Impressive

Posted by Mike on July 22, 2008

These guys defintely look like a couple of douches, but I must say I am impressed. Too bad Wade Boggs, could do three of those in the time these douches did one.

Ice Cold Beer

Posted by Mike on July 22, 2008

The Red Sox are in luck, because the Toronto Blue Jays have given the walking papers to Wayne McMahon, the best beer vendor in the American League. This is the type of guy we need at Fenway, because that Cracker Jack guy was awful and the rest of the vendors are bring nothing to the table. He’d fit in perfect with the old, beat up ballpark. His voice is very reminiscent of the last person that has seen me naked.

The One-Time You Don’t Want Your Number Retired

Posted by Mike on July 22, 2008

This is like the ultimate slap in the face. The number 4 jersey of Nate Robinson was retired at the Cox Pavilion, during halftime of a Knicks/Timberwolves games. Robinson, is the first player ever to have receivedthis honor. Hopefully, they’ll retire his sneakers from the Dunk contest as well. It was Robinson fourth year playing in the summer league, and the league was not too subtle about telling him that this is his last season playing in the summer league. Not to far behind in his jersey being retired is one Gerald Green, who may set the record for most years in the summer league.
