Move Over Red Sox, We Got Some New Pink Jersey’s In Town

Posted by Mike on December 5, 2008

It’s called Bruins. That’s how it suppose to go right ? Well, with the Bruins (17-4-4) off to a white-hot start the inevitable pink jersey’s and hat sales  come with it. The problem is the Bruins don’t exactly know their fan base too well. The Bruins have plenty of fans who pee sitting down. The problem is, that these North Shore chicks, yeah that’s what they are, they want to wear the authentic Marc Savard jersey’s, or some throwback Don Sweeney, or Craig Janney jersey. Not a pink one. These aren’t Red Sox fans. Bruins fans are about as die-hard as they come and they need to be. They have had very little too cheer about in the last 15 years. These aren’t your fake female Red Sox fans, who begam watching the Sox in the fall of 2004. They won’t be buying any pink jersey’s. I mean, have you seen them ? They look like John Goodman with long hair.

One More Sean Avery Story For You

Posted by Mike on December 5, 2008

Here is another tale of the love-able Sean Avery. While playing the Nashville Predators on Oct 11, Avery hit defensemen, Dan Hamhuis with a cheap-shot, cross-check from behind and received a penalty for it. But, the “incident” with Avery didn’t occur till he went to the penalty box, when he got into it with die-hard Predator’s fan (if there is any) Sandie Griffith. According to Griffith, here is how the exchange went:

“He came up behind Dan Hamhuis and cross-checked him, and I went to the box,” said Griffith. That’s when she asked him, “aren’t you going to turtle up?”

Griffith insisted to me that while she taunted Avery, she never used foul language. So what was Avery’s response? According to Griffith, Avery said, “You’re nothing but an old f**king c*nt, I wouldn’t even c*m in your face.” After which he sprayed her with his water bottle. It was following that incident that the refs assessed Avery a second game misconduct, and Griffith is pretty much convinced Avery’s reaction to the confrontation with her was the reason.

Here is the video of the exchange (at 2:21):

The Sean Avery Poll

Posted by Mike on December 5, 2008

I don’t know about you guys, but I’d go with “slamming home the easy rebound”. Even though the clear winner is “going five-hole”, that has too much of an anal sex reference too me. I may run red-lights, if you know what I mean, but I will never, ever justify anal sex. I’m a Catholic after all.

Sean Avery May Not Get A Sloppy Seconds Chance With The Dallas Stars

Posted by Mike on December 4, 2008

This offseason in NHL free-agency, Sean Avery was a bit of a hot commodity. Some teams were weary of him because of his checkered past, and history of getting on teammates nerves. There was Dustin Brown who played with Avery on the Los Angeles Kings, and Avery often made fun of Brown speech-impediment. Brown is now the Kings captain. And there’s the rumor Avery may have slept with a teammates wife while he was on the New York Rangers. This didn’t stop the Dallas Stars from giving Avery a 4-year 15.5 Million dollar contract, even though Stars captain Brenden Morrow has long hated Avery. Now, the Stars are regretting their decision to sign Avery, and may release him, because according to ESPN the players might not want him back. From ESPN:

Sean Avery may have more to deal with than just a possible suspension from the NHL.

He might be personal non grata with his own team, as well.

Dallas Stars coach Dave Tippett, in unusually candid remarks for a coach, addressed the situation Wednesday prior to the Stars game against the Oilers in Edmonton.

“From a coach’s standpoint, I try to build a team that has an atmosphere where players care about each other and play with each other and play with continuity, and I find it hard to believe that Sean could come back in that dressing room and we could find that continuity again,” Tippett said.

Tippett was particularly incensed by the fact that he had spent some time Tuesday in Calgary defending Avery in front of the Canadian media, only to turn around and hear Avery say: “I am really happy to be back in Calgary, I love Canada … I just want to comment on how it’s become like a common thing in the NHL for guys to fall in love with my sloppy seconds. I don’t know what that’s about. Enjoy the game tonight.”

“It’s frustrating for me to go out and defend the guy,” Tippett said. “It’s disappointing, because in the morning with all the stuff going on in the media, I approached Sean and asked him if he was going to talk to media; he told me, no. He talked to our PR people and he told them, no, he wasn’t going to talk to the media … and to have a calculated response like that … it was a calculated statement for what I feel was personal gain.”

Barry Melrose Is Back!

Posted by Mike on December 4, 2008

Ladies and gentlemen, your prayers have be answered. According to the Dallas Morning News, ESPN is bring back Barry Melrose, who had previously worked for the network for 12 years. Melrose decided to leave ESPN this summer to take the head coaching gig with the Tampa Bay Lighting, but his stay only lasted 16 games, as the Lighting went 5-7-4 in the quick Melrose era. Still longer than Britney Spears marriage to Costanza, I mean, the other Jason Alexander. The Lighting’s loss, was ESPN’s gain, as they now bring back perhaps their best analyst. Who also happens to have one great head of hair. Matthew Barnaby, it was fun while it lasted. More from the Dallas Morning News:

Looks like Barry Melrose, fired after 16 games in his return to coaching this season, is moving back to Bristol. I think this is breaking news. I don’t know because I seldom recognize it.

Melrose worked 12 years as an ESPN hockey analyst after coaching the Los Angeles Kings. The Tampa Bay Lightning thought so much of his work, it hired him to coach the team this season. That gig lasted about one-fifth of a season. Melrose’s new ESPN deal is for three years.

Don’t Call Milan Lucic A Hunchback

Posted by Mike on December 4, 2008

This story is a bit old, but with the Boston Bruins playing well, and Milan Lucic leading the team, I thought people might like to revisit this famous Lucic story. When Lucic was 15-years-old he went through a growth spurt, and in that spurt brought really bad posture. Lucic was unable to straighten his back. So, eventually he went to see a doctor and he was diagnosed with Scheuermann’s disease, a condition that causes the upper back to curve. With his new conditon brought on taunts by the opposing teams, something that Lucic didn’t take to kindly too. So when Kyle Beach ( who was drafted 11th overall in the NHL Draft by the Chicago Blackhawks) made a hunchback like pose to Lucic, he didn’t think twice about showing off his fighting skills. From the Boston Globe:

The condition didn’t affect his play until some opponents started to notice his back. Two years ago, Everett forward Kyle Beach shrugged his shoulders at Lucic in a hunchback style. The enraged Bruins prospect chased Beach, and several games later beat him up.

Last season, Kamloops defenseman Ryan Bender called Lucic a hunchback during a game and was slapped with a game misconduct, which was later changed to a 10-minute misconduct.

“You don’t like to see that,” Lucic said. “You hope guys are classier than that. But guys who do that have it coming to them. You just take care of it.”

I’d Take Those Sloppy Seconds

Posted by Mike on December 3, 2008

Here is Elisha Cuthbert, with her latest NHL boyfriend Dion Phaneuf. After Sean Avery’s latest comments about Phaneuf taking his “sloppy seconds”, the NHL has today suspended Avery until Tuesday. For the most part sloppy seconds aren’t the best thing, but, who am I kidding, I’ll take it anytime, especially when they’re coming from Elisha Cuthbert. Although, I may have a difficult time sleeping with the daughter of Jack Bauer. The remarks that Avery made, were  to the wrong guy. Phaneuf is one of the toughest and most physical defensemen in the NHL. He just might be Jack Bauer with a stick. The next time the Dallas Stars meet-up with the Calgary Flames isn’t until February 3rd, but I’m sure Phaneuf won’t forget about the comments that Avery made. More from ESPN:

“I’m really happy to be back in Calgary; I love Canada,” the Ontario native said. “I just want to comment on how it’s become like a common thing in the NHL for guys to fall in love with my sloppy seconds. I don’t know what that’s about, but enjoy the game tonight.” He then walked out of the locker room.

Avery’s ex-girlfriend, actress Elisha Cuthbert of the television show “24” and the movie “Old School,” is dating Calgary defenseman Dion Phaneuf; she had been romantically linked to Mike Komisarek of the Montreal Canadiens. Avery also dated Rachel Hunter, the former Sports Illustrated swimsuit cover model and actress who is now the girlfriend of Los Angeles Kings center Jarret Stoll.

That Wasn’t Supposed To Happen

Posted by Mike on November 25, 2008

Montreal Canadiens defensemen, Ryan O’Byrne scored on his own goal to tie up the game against the New York Islanders. The Islanders committed a penalty and the Canadiens pulled their goalie to get the extra attacker on the ice, and O’Byrne just shot the puck in his own net.
