Per AZ Central:
The Diamondbacks have called to request that catcher Miguel Montero, perhaps their best trade chip this off-season, play more behind the plate for his winter-ball team in Venezuela, where he has been seeing time at third and first base.
League sources say the call was made so other teams can get a better look at Montero. The Diamondbacks are said to have put a high price on Montero in the past.
Boston, Florida, Cincinnati and Detroit are among the teams in need of catching that could have interest in Montero.
Montero’s value is hard to gauge due to his limited playing time as Chris Snyder’s backup. In 398 at-bats the past two seasons, he has hit .239 with 15 home runs.
Per Denver Post:
Boston is among the clubs pursuing a catcher in case it doesn’t re-sign free agent Jason Varitek. The Red Sox have been linked to the Rangers’ Gerald Laird, and there’s speculation they will make a run at the Rockies’ Iannetta, a Rhode Island native, though it’s hard to see Colorado parting with the slugger.
