Say It Ain’t So

According to the Boston Herald, the Boston Red Sox will be picking up the $4 Million option on knuckle-baller Tim Wakefield. The 42-year-old compiled a 10-11 with a 4.13 ERA in 30 starts this season. But, like a good porn star, when Wakefield blows it, he really blows it. The Sox love the fact that Wakefield is an innings eater and a horse over the years, but as of late he has had more and more injuries. Namely his back. But, what better bargain can you get then spending $4 Million Dollars on someone who will pitch five-hundred and start about twenty-five to thirty games. More from the Boston Herald:
Tim Wakefield spent the last 14 seasons with the Red Sox. Today, the Sox are expected to officially invite him back for a 15th year.
Wakefield recently completed an end-of-year physical and MRI, the last hurdle before the Red Sox exercise their $4 million club option for 2009. His unique arrangement with the club, in a deal signed back in 2005, features an annual club option that, in theory, extends into perpetuity.
Wakefield holds the franchise record for most uninterrupted seasons for a Red Sox pitcher.
