Manny In Pinstripes ?

Posted by Mike on October 30, 2008

Could Manny Ramirez be switching sides in the Red Sox/Yankees rivalry? It’s a distinct possibility. According to the NY Post, the Yankees are considering making a big push to sign the right-handed slugger. The Yankees have long been leery of Ramirez, after the many incidents they have seen him commit while on the Red Sox. But, not winning a World Series since 2000 will change a lot of things. Not to mention the behavior that Ramirez displayed with former Yankees skipper Joe Torre, may have given the Yankees a change of heart. The former Red Sox outfielder would be willing to tarnish what ever legacy he has left with Red Sox fans, to go to the highest bidder, which very well could be the Yankees. Even though the Dodgers need him more than anyone, they will more than likely not go to the length and money that agent Scott Boras and Ramirez want. More from NY Post:

PHILADELPHIA -Manny Ramirez doesn’t fit the Yankees desire to get younger and more athletic, but several industry sources believe the Yankees will make a serious push for the free agent to play right field next year.

Though GM Brian Cashman says the top offseason priority is starting pitching, he did not rule out interest in the 36-year-old Ramirez.

“We are looking at starting pitching,” Cashman said when asked about the team’s interest in Ramirez. “We will see how the free agent and trade markets are.”

The Dodgers have offered Ramirez a two-year deal worth $60 million to remain in Los Angeles, but he is expected to file for free agency and look for a four-year deal in the $80 million range.
