Actual Headline: Ex-Pats Linebacker Donating Brain To Science

Posted by Mike on September 24, 2008

The headline is found on the The Boston Channel, and yes he still is alive and breathing, but what it’s about is former New England Patriots linebacker Ted Johnson, to be among six retired NFL players who will let their brains be studied for the long-term effects of concussions. The former Patriot has had his struggles off the field as of late, he’s battling major depression, he and his wife were arrested for a domestic distrubance, he’s also recently divorced, and went on to talk about how Patriots coach Bill Belichick had him practice, even though he was still dealing with the ramifications of a concussion. The life of Ted Johnson has been very difficult since his days on the field. More from The Boston Channel:

The 35-year-old’s neurologist has pointed to Johnson’s multiple concussions between 2002-05 as a cause of his permanent and degenerative problems with memory and depression.

“I’m not being vindictive. I’m not trying to reach up from the grave and get the NFL,” Johnson added. “But any doctor who doesn’t connect concussions with long-term effects should be ashamed of themselves.”
