The Yankees Break Roger’s Heart

Posted by Mike on September 23, 2008

With the closing ceremonies at Yankee Stadium taking place this past Sunday, there was never one mention or even hint that Roger Clemens was ever a New York Yankee. According to the NY Post, this left the Rocket “heartbroken”. The Yankees also didn’t mention 12-year manger and quite possibly the best manager in their history, Joe Torre. The Yanks former manger left on bad terms a few months ago, which is probably the reason they didn’t mention him.  However, in Clemens case many people think it was due to the whole steroids debacle, which they are right about, but the Yankees did mention many others who were involved in steroid allegations; such as Jason Giambi, Chuck Knoblauch , and Clemens best friend and the starting pitcher that night, Andy Pettitte . It was clear that even though the Yankees had some “dirty” players, having Clemens associated with your team is like touching the third rail. More from NY Post:

Estranged former Yankee Roger Clemens was “heartbroken” when his former team left him out of Sunday night’s Stadium-farewell festivities, which included a video montage honoring the Bronx Bombers’ greatest pitchers – but not him, a relative told The Post yesterday.

Clemens was sitting at home in hurricane-ravaged Texas, in front of a battery-operated television on his living room couch, when the team delivered a final crushing blow to its former star.
