Troy Brown To Retire

Posted by Mike on September 18, 2008

Perhaps the greatest receiver in New England Patriots history is set to retire according to the Boston Herald. Troy Brown, who was selected by the Patriots in the same draft as Drew Bledsoe, was taken in 8th round pick a round that longer exists, by former Patriots coach Bill Parcells. His career started as a practice squad stud, then to special teams player, and eventually to Patriots #1 wide receiver. In fact Brown never got a chance to play in the Patriots Super Bowl bid against the Packers, he was benched for Hassan Graham. Many people blame the decision of Parcells to sit Brown for Graham as a reason that Desmond Howard returned a kickoff for a touchdown. The New England Patriots great will retire with 557 receptions, 31 touchdowns, 3 interceptions and most importantly three Super Bowl rings. The Robert Kraft and Bill Belichick favorite will surely have some type of role within the Patriots organziation in the future. More from the Boston Herald:

Former Patriots wide receiver Troy Brown will be making an appearance on Thursday night’s 6:30 show of Mohegan Sun’s Sports Tonight on Comcast Sportsnet. The 37-year-old,  who has three Super Bowl rings, has been in a bit of limbo since the Pats decided not to bring him back for a 16thseason. While he visited both the Jets and Browns during the off-season, it’s expected that Brown will be retiring
