Theo Signs New Deal To Stay With Red Sox

Posted by Mike on September 16, 2008

There won’t be any drama over contract negotiations this time around for Theo Epstein. According to the Boston Globe, Red Sox owner John Henry wrote an e-mail this afternoon, which I have yet to receive, that Red Sox General Manger Theo Epstein “has agreed to a new contract extending beyond this season”. I’m guessing Club President Larry Lucchino was not apart of negotiations this time around. So, Theo can forget about going to Brazil with Pearl Jam again, because he’s back. For how many years ? That is unknown, maybe over at Yawkey Way there going to follow how the Patriots handle coach Bill Belichick’s length of contract, only he and owner Robert Kraft know. More from the Globe:

Red Sox general manager Theo Epstein has agreed to a new contract extending beyond this season.

‘‘We are all on the same page with regard to our vision for the organization,” owner John Henry wrote in an email this afternoon. “The negotiations were pleasant and were all about rewarding Theo for the great, great job he has done in bringing two world championships to the Red Sox. We look forward to the difficult task of trying to win a third.”

After the 2005 season, Epstein resigned from the Red Sox due to philosophical differences with president/chief executive officer Larry Lucchino. He returned to the team a few months later, signing a three-year deal which was to expire at the end of this season.

Terms for his new deal are unknown.
