The Boston Bruins maybe a distant fourth when it comes to Boston sports, but they just may have the city’s toughest athlete. The Bruins captain, Zdeno Chara is known for his imposing size and vicious hits, and he also attempted to climb Mount Kilimanjaro this past summer. The Bruins defensemen has been criticized in the past for his lack of fighting, but there was talk that former coach Dave Lewis told him not to fight. Much has been said about Chara, some believe the B’s overpaid for him, and some say he is under-rated. No story about Chara is as good as this one courtesy of Rob Simpson:
During the second period, Devils defenseman Colin White, no slouch at 6-foot-2, 225 pounds, tussled with first-year Bruins captain Zdeno Chara, at 6-foot-9, 260 pound.
After the two disengaged, White started chirping. The verbal barrage continued intermittently for a few minutes; comments about Boston being out of the postseason, jabs about making tee times and, finally, personal comments about Chara’s teammates. The Boston captain had heard enough. As paraphrased by a couple of his fellow blueliners who watched with awe, Chara finished one second-period shift by following White to the Devils bench. When White sat down, Chara actually stepped onto the New Jersey bench, grabbed White by the front of the sweater and said, “Apologize now or I’m gonna drag you out in front of your fans and kick the %#&@& out of you!”
White said he was sorry.

Bruins fans, your prayers have been answered. The Boston Bruins have placed Glenn Murray on waivers according to the Boston Globe. If Murray goes unclaimed, which he will, the Bruins will save $2,766,667 this year. This is almost as good as when Hal Gill left town. Murray is the to the Bruins what Antoine Walker was to the Celtics, minus the veteran leadership. I cannot stress enough just how bad he real was this past year. Free at last, free at last, thank god almighty Glenn Murray is free at last.

Free Agent Winger, and all around jerk Sean Avery has had a bit of a Mike Piazza situation swirling around him, after interning at Vogue Magazine for the summer. This is a man who has dated Mary-Kate Olsen , not exactly something to brag about, and also Jack Bauer’s daughter Elisha Cuthbert. However, that hasn’t stopped fashion writer Susan Kirschbaum from questioning Avery’s manhood. When Kirschbaum questioned Avery this was his response:
“I’m going home to jerk off to you now.” Aww/eww. A tipster tells us that Avery added “And that’s a big compliment,” and later text messaged Kirschbaum saying that “the session is going well.” So yes! A little creepy, but at least he’s not been completely be-sassed by the sleek and bitchy fashion industry. Though it could all be an elaborate ruse and he really went back to his hotel to drink Moët and do blow all night with Tom Ford while Anna Wintour did slow 70’s disco claps in the background, Carly Simon playing softly. If that’s the case then boo, but if he really was practicing his stick skills then good on him. I hope he had a steak afterwards.

Now that is a comeback, and a line from a man who is defintely not gay.

With Free Agency beginning at 12pm today, look for the Boston Bruins to be major players in the Marian Hossa sweepstakes. Contrary to what local Boston papers say, the Bruins will make a major push to get Zdeno Chara’s best friend and fellow Slovakian in the Black N’ Gold. There will be major competition coming from the Oilers and the Canadiens. This process should end quickly today, Hossa probably will be signed by someone a little after 12pm. I wouldn’t be holding my breath hoping that Hossa ends up in the hub of hockey. The Bruins, are only about 7 million under the cap, and if they miss out on Hossa don’t look for they to be major players on anybody else.
Update:NY Post reports Bruins are prepared to offer Hossa a 12 year 100 Million Dollar contract. The B’s would waive Manny Fernandez and Glenn Murray.

Bruins GM, Peter Chiarelli wants to make a big splash in the NHL Free Agency begining July 1st. The Bruins, have begun talks with both Defensemen Brian Campbell, and Winger Marian Hossa. Both are expected to be the top targets in free agency this off season. The Bruins must shed some money off the cap, so look for the B’s to move Glenn Murray, PJ Axelsson, and Phil Kessel. This is the most important off season for the B’s in 10 years, and if they can add a big name they’ll be able to make a good run next year. Hossa, is best friends with Bruins Captain Zdeno Chara. Just last week Hossa, turned down the Penguins offer of 7 years 50 Million. The B’s will sign one of these two.

Ever wonder how much Bill Simmons, or Michael Wibon make? Well, TheBigLead.com, put together a list of around how much each of these guys made. The list can be seen right here. It’s actually rather shocking at how much money these guys make. They make more then the freakin President. All I gotta say is this damn blog better pick it up! I want to be in the Wilbon, or Reilly tax brackets. One thing I don’t know is how the hell does Jay Mariotti make so much damn money? That guy is a moron, have you seen Around The Horn? It amazing that these sports writers are the ones who complain about players salaries, and some of them are making more then them. I just hope someday you see mine name ahead of Woody Paige. That’s all I ask.

Look for the Bruins to be busy in the next few days. There’s talk about a possible trade with the New York Islanders, which would allow them to clear cap space for a D-Man, perhaps Markov?. Also their trying to move Aaron Ward aswell.
